Michelle Cruz-Rosado: 9/11 Survivor, Author, and "Woman of Empowerment"
Inspirational speaker Michelle Cruz-Rosado was born in New York, New York to Filipino and Honduran immigrants.
At an early age Michelle's parents shared with her the importance of respecting the beliefs of others, and the quality of a good education. Michelle attended private school, and had a deep passion for art. She also had a passion for finance, and after high school Michelle decided to study business communications. At nineteen she was working as an assistant at the Latin America Capital Markets desk at JP Morgan, one of the biggest financial institutions on Wall Street.
Although Michelle didn't speak Spanish, her ability to communicate with clients in Latin America gave her the opportunity to see beyond financial services and instead, focus on client relationships.
In 1994, Michelle left JP Morgan and began her next career with Bear Stearns in their Correspondent Clearing division. For the next three years Michelle would work directly with the president and senior management, and quickly learned the ins and outs of high-net worth portfolios.
Although she enjoyed her time at Bear Stearns, Michelle knew it was time to begin a new journey once again.
In June of 1999, Michelle was offered a position as an investment associate for Fiduciary Trust, a small investment banking firm located in the upper floors of 2 World Trade Center.
On the morning of September 11, 2001 while Michelle was at her desk on the 95th floor of Tower 2, a plane crashed into Tower 1 shattering the windows in her office. Luckily, Michelle was able to take one of the last elevators to the lobby before the second plane crashed into Tower 2.
Since this unforgettable day, Michelle has become a professional speaker and small business consultant, traveling around the country sharing her message of strength and overcoming challenges, no matter how big or small.
Michelle's story has been featured on CNN, NBC Nightly News, BBC and FOX, and her co-authored book, "Pursuing Your Destiny: How to Overcome Adversity and Achieve Your Dreams" was welcomed with great praise upon its release in 2011.
People often ask her, how can one live a life of peace and fulfillment when surrounded by negative beliefs? Michelle's answer is always the same: “By being fully aware of each experience and embracing the gifts of your present moment can one only find happiness in their heart.”
